How to Be Born Again Every Morning



"Wait a second!" you exclaim. "What do you mean, you can be born again every morning?"


You continue, "That's not what the Bible says."


You're correct.


Let me confuse you even more by suggesting this is what Buddha is reported to have said. The founder of Buddhism allegedly said, “Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.”


How's that for a driving down a different road?


Let me get back on the right road.


I'm suggesting every time you wake up in the morning, or at night if you work the night shift, you have a brand new day on which to focus. As the saying goes, "This is the day the Lord has made, let us be glad and rejoice in it." (Psalm 118:24)


Yes, you may have work and activities to complete from the previous day. Yes, your planner may be full of appointments. Yes, you may have to take your daughter to dance class and your son to basketball practice. And yes, if you're married, there's the quality time the two of you should have together.


That's life.


The way we are born again every morning, and focused on what matters most, what God expects of us, is to raise our hands, our heart, and our mind to Him, and say "Thy will be done. Do with me today as you wish. I surrender myself to you."


Use whatever words that come to mind, but start off your day by telling God He is in control, and you will obediently follow His will, whatever it might be. That's also not a bad way to end you day.


In a very real sense, you ARE "being born again," as you renew your mind and thereby your heart, committing yourself to focus on what God has purposed you to do, facing new challenges and seizing new opportunities.

  • What do you think about the idea that you are reborn every day? How could that motivate you spiritually and throughout other areas of your life?

  • How do you end your day before going to sleep? If God is not involved in your thoughts and words at that time, what difference do you think it would make if you made him a part of your bedtime routine?

  • How do you begin your day as your crawl out of bed? If God is not involved in your thoughts and words at that time, what difference do you think it would make if you made him a part of your wake-up routine?
